A wood shingle roof can not only provide you with ample protection from the harsh weather; it can also improve the look of your home. If you overlook this part when you do periodic checks on the state of your house, you are shortening the life of your wood shingle roof.
There are some things you should not forget to do if you want to maximize the use of your wood shingle roof. First, you should always have extra shingles on hand. If you were not able to save a few pieces when your house was built, take the time to go to your nearest home improvement store to purchase spares. On a related note, you should not also forget to check on the wood shingles on your regularly to determine if repair or replacement is needed.
Another thing you should not forget to do is to clean your roof every so often. If you live in an area that has many trees and often experiences heavy rains and winds, make it a point to clear the roof of debris and leaves as soon as the weather permits it. This is because if you let debris accumulate on the roof, water and moisture build-up can follow, which in turn can lead to the shingles deteriorating or your roof leaking.
Still in line with the point in the preceding paragraph, make sure that you clean your wood shingle roof thoroughly at least once every two years. There are two ways to go about this. If you are not physically able, have a fear of heights, or do not have the time to do this, you can hire a roofing expert to do the cleaning for you. However, if you are up to the task, you can clean the roof of your house yourself. Just make sure that you are wearing the proper attire and that you have all the things you need to be able to do so.
Taking care of your wood shingle roof is not easy as you have to invest time, effort, and money to be able to do so properly. However, you need to do this if you want your roof to last for a long time.
